Capitol Hill: New Patients

Pediatric primary care is about prevention and wellness.

We believe kids do better when they have reliable, comprehensive care — whether it’s working to keep your child healthy through preventive care, helping your child feel better when they’re sick or coordinating care when additional services are needed. Our goal is to provide your family with the foundation for a lifetime of good health.

Through Children’s National Pediatricians & Associates (CNPA), your child will have a dedicated primary care provider, chosen by you. If your provider is not available for an appointment, you can see any in-office pediatrician or nurse practitioner.

One Practice, Two Locations

The CNPA Capitol Hill and Foggy Bottom offices function as one practice with two locations. The two offices share providers, staff and patients. Patients in the practice may be offered an appointment at either site depending on appointment availability.

Hours of Operation

Urgent care is available by appointment only for existing patients. Same day urgent care appointments are available Monday – Friday (8 a.m. - 4 p.m.) and Saturday (9 a.m. - 12 p.m.) Phone lines are open to schedule urgent care appointments Monday – Friday at 7 a.m. and Saturday at 8 a.m.

There are a limited number of appointments available on Saturday mornings. Existing patients may call at 8 a.m. on a Saturday morning to request an appointment for that Saturday. Saturday appointments are located at either Capitol Hill or Foggy Bottom on alternating Saturdays.

For Expectant Parents

Bringing a baby into the world is an exciting time for parents. We know your baby deserves the best care from the start. Choosing a pediatrician is an important first step in starting your baby’s health off on the right track.

You may want to get to know your child’s care provider before he or she is even born — especially if you are aware that specialty services may be needed. It’s also helpful to make sure that office location, hours and staffing work for you and your schedule.

CNPA pediatricians and nurse practitioners are skilled in caring for newborns and children. They are ready to work with you to keep your child happy and healthy.

Immunization Policy

The team at CNPA firmly believes in the effectiveness of immunizations to prevent serious illnesses and save lives. We also firmly believe in the safety of immunizations. Our offices follow the immunization schedule outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American Academy of Pediatrics, which has been scientifically tested for safety and efficacy.

There is no such thing as an approved "alternative" immunization schedule. We will be happy to provide information to help you understand the science behind immunizations, as we have a commitment to our patients to keep them safe and provide the best pediatric care available. This includes giving immunizations on time, according to the CDC/AAP schedule.

Preparing for Your Visit

Whether we need to see your child for a routine check-up or your child is feeling sick, preparing for your appointment can help ease the process.

When you call to schedule your first appointment, be sure to give us the best email and phone number to contact you. A few days before your first appointment, you will receive an email and/or a text message alerting you to complete the check-in process online. For new patients, the check-in process involves gathering lots of information about your child’s past medical history and pertinent family history. Because this process can take time, we strongly recommend completing it before your appointment.

If you are unable to complete the check-in process online, you will be asked to do it when you arrive for your appointment.

Keep in mind the following helpful tips to make your first appointment go smoothly:

  • Bring a list of any medications your child is taking.
  • Bring your child’s current insurance card and your driver’s license.
  • Bring any medical records (including X-rays and lab tests).
  • Bring your child’s immunization record.
  • Complete the check-in process online before your appointment.
  • Write down a list of questions you may have for your pediatrician.

Our teams work to keep your appointments on time. Please help us by arriving on time or early for your appointment time. We understand situations come up, so if you are running late, we may ask you to reschedule the appointment. If you do need to reschedule a well visit, we request that you contact our office 48 hours in advance.
