Why Children's National: I have always loved Washington, D.C. I love being a part of the bustle of the city, and becoming involved in the numerous professional and advocacy opportunities on the community, state and federal levels. Children's National also offers an impressive combination of an advanced academic hospital offering specialized care with collaboration between clinicians across all fields of medicine, as well as a supportive and nurturing training environment.
Accolades: Dr. Dorr is excited to serve as the inpatient and education chief this year. She was chosen to be member of American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry's Advocacy Committee, and she serves as the advocacy liaison (and outgoing Children's National fellow representative) for the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Society of Greater Washington, and is a member of the Advocacy Committee of the Washington Psychiatric Society. She was also awarded the CAPSGW Early Career Psychiatrist Award. She is also a member of the Children's National House Staff Council. Dr. Dorr received an MPH in epidemiology from the George Washington University. During her residency, she was elected to several positions, including associate chief resident as well the neuroscience curriculum director, vice president of the Southern Chapter of the New Jersey Psychiatric Association, and served executive roles on several other residency, hospital and state organizations. She has been recognized for excellence in consultation-liaison services, and was awarded the Area 3 Resident Fellow Merit Award from the APA. Dr. Dorr was also first author on the published article, "Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Comorbid Disorders", as well as received second place for original research at the Philadelphia Psychiatric Society Addiction Symposium on a presentation on combining TMS, ketamine and mindfulness for opioid addiction. Further, Dr. Dorr presented and implemented a new protocol to better improve hygiene opportunities and practices for psychiatric patients awaiting involuntary placement in the Emergency Department. She also recently finished a three-year psychodynamic psychotherapy training, and is beginning both adult and child psychoanalytic training.

Why Children's National: I grew up in Washington, D.C., and have always loved this city, so it was natural to call Children’s National, “home.” The kind clinicians and staff at Children’s National have also made it a wonderful place to grow and connect with the caring people around me. The ability to focus on my passions (especially psychotherapy) has been an important aspect of my training that I am grateful for.
Accolades: Dr. Safran has received multiple distinctions related to humanism and professionalism, most recently receiving the George Washington Psychiatry Resident Professionalism award. In addition, his interest in psychodynamic psychotherapy has led him to be an avid participant in the American Society of Psychoanalytic Physicians, exemplified by receiving the Henry P. Laughlin Award from the society.

Why Children's National: I decided to come to Children’s National for multiple reasons. One reason was that location was very important to me as I wanted to be closer to my family who lives in the area, which is why I initially started looking at programs in the area. I liked that the program was based in a children’s hospital, therefore I knew the experience I would receive would be varied and vast, along with giving me opportunities to tailor my training to specific areas if I wished in the future. Lastly, when I came to interview at the program, I felt welcomed and wanted. Every person I interviewed with had reviewed my application in depth and were genuinely interested in learning more about me, along with discussing not only how I could benefit from program, but also how the training here would be beneficial to me for my future goals.
Accolades: Dr. Tanwar hold an M.B.A. from St. George’s University. She has utilized her medical and business knowledge while working Grenada to aid medical students as a learning strategist. She served as her prior residency program’s chief resident and partook in conference and presented posters on the topic of physician suicide.

Why Children's National: As a psychiatry resident at George Washington, I was able to rotate through Child Psychiatry at Children's National and meet all of the amazing attendings and staff. I felt supported but also challenged, and I felt it would be an excellent place to go through training. I could see there was a wealth of opportunities to work with many populations, including preschool psychiatry, which was something I had a particular interest in. Over one year later, I am so happy at Children's National and have no regrets!
Accolades: Dr. Andrews has a bachelor of science in early childhood education and graduated magna cum laude. While in medical school, she served as the president of both the Pediatric Interest Group and Psychiatry Interest Group. While in residency at George Washington University, she served as the chair of the On-Call Committee, and co-led a QI project seeking to improve the on call experience through detailed analysis of call logistics. Dr. Andrews gave a Grand Rounds presentation on Infant/Toddler Mental Health, with Bhavin Dave, M.D., as the discussant, who is the co-director of the Early Childhood Behavioral Health Program at Children’s National Hospital.

Why Children’s National: I came because Children's National focuses not only on being good clinically, but on the needed role of child psychiatrists as advocates. There is an interactive advocacy curriculum where we build our advocacy portfolio and put our ideas into action. There are opportunities to engage organizationally at Children's National, through the local AACAP branch, and even opportunities for even further training through policy fellowships.
Accolades: Dr. Newsome is a current APA/SAMHSA Minority Fellow Awardee. In addition, prior to pursing a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship he completed two fellowships in Community Psychiatry and a Massachusetts Department of Mental Health Fellowship in Transitional Age Youth with Autism. Some of his work has included leading group discussion within the Boston Vital Healing Project and starting a body of research focusing on transitional youth of color and effects of racism and micro-aggression on mental health and achievement.

I chose Children’s National because it embodies the highest quality of care, training, service and commitment to the families of the D.C. metropolitan area.
Accolades: Dr. York has done significant research on the social determinants of health for patients living with chronic kidney disease and assessing global functioning in patients living with mental illness. Future projects he is working on implementing include research on provider knowledge of the cultural formulation interview of the DSM-5 and clinical impact for application.

Why Children’s National: From the first day of my three months spent on the child and adolescent inpatient units during my PGY-2 year, Children’s National has felt like home. Between the variety of clinical experience available, the focus of the program on supporting a balance of learning and wellness, and the collaborative and supportive culture of the hospital as a whole, Children’s National is everything that I look for in a program and a workplace.
Accolades: Dr. Ebbets was honored to serve as chair and co-chair of numerous residency-wide committees during residency, including the On Call Committee, Retreat Committee, and Recruitment Committee. She also served as a psychiatry resident representative on the GW Housestaff Committee. During her PGY-IV year, Dr. Ebbets was chosen to serve as Administrative Chief for the GW residency program.

Accolades: During residency, Dr. Miller was involved in addictions research and was the course director of a mindfulness focused visual arts-based museum education course for medical students. She currently serves on the AACAP Committee on Medical Students and Residents. She is also the recipient of the O. Spurgeon English Award for Clinic and Academic Excellence in Behavioral Medicine and Clinical Psychiatry.

Why Children's National: I wanted a program that emphasizes and is strong in therapy and across a spectrum of therapy modalities, flexibility in outpatient caseload.
Accolades: Dr. Rosinsky is a 2021-2022 Doximity Op-Med Fellow, writing op-ed pieces for the Doximity network throughout the year. In residency, she founded an institution-wide peer support hotline staffed by psychiatry residents to serve house staff going through stress related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Prior to her medical career, she also worked as a cancer immunology researcher, classroom music teacher, writing tutor and science educator, and still performs and teaches cello.

Hometown: All over! I grew up on Army bases and have lived in Georgia, Texas, Wisconsin, Hawaii, Pennsylvania and Virginia. That being said, I've always considered Northern Virginia to be my hometown as I've spent the most time there.

Why Children's National: I chose Children's National because I felt a great deal of trust in the attendings and the fellows. I knew they would all do their best to ensure top-notch training while also maintaining a supportive environment. I'd also previously worked with several of the attendings and fellows and I just knew they were all people I wanted to continue to spend time with.
